Bankton House

This is a scratch built Bankton House (many years ago) that I made for a club demo.

It is a mix of bookbinders board, cereal packet cardboard, plaster and paint.

How did I do?

  1. A splendid mansion to grace the estate of any 18th century ImagiNation prince or general, that will add tone to the vulgar brawl taking place elsewhere on the tabletop.

    1. It is basically a box, with thick sides, and a few holes in it topped off with organised confetti.

I've never actually been closer than a hundred yards or so. It was pre-digital camera days so I made a pencil sketch from my car, SAAB 900, through the drivers window. My kids were in the back in car seats so it must have been 1989 or earlier. It was raining so there are a few smudges on the sketch, which I still have somewhere. I would blog it if I ever found it again.

It would grace any Imagination tabletop but I did make it for the real battle of Prestonpans.

  3. Jim,

A very impressive model. You make it sound as if us was a simple thing to build, but just a look at it shows the skill required to construct it.

    All the best,

    Bob

    1. Thanks Bob but it is just a box with another box with holes for the windows built around it and a few extra panels here and there to give it depth. Cutting straight lines with a Stanley knife helps as well as a bit of 3D visualisation. All those courses in computer graphics helped too but it was a pain travelling down to Oxford for a while.

  4. Nicely done! Better than many a commercial product I've seen.

    1. Maybe so but it has pride of place on one of my bookshelves and my dear lady would not part with it now.

  5. A very nice looking building. Painting those windows would have been time consuming.

    1. Thank You.

Yes, you are right but it seemed easy enough at the time.
