Little Update

Nothing much to report other than painting, painting, painting.

A recent endeavour is this.

I can see a little adjustment is required to the hat lace and I've not finished the shoe buckles correctly.

Other than that I have nothing worthy of a full blog post but I do have a lot in the pipeline.

Chemical Tank by Warbases

A little diversion from the sand dunes and redcoats.

https://warbases.co.uk/product/sci-favela-chemical-tank/

Take an empty 'coke' can, add a little MDF, paint to taste and voila ...

28mm heroic sized figures from Reaper Bones.

Needs some lettering on the tank indicating how nasty the contents are.

40 shades of orange.

Ideal for Necromunda.

Must get some 'sci-fi' coloured grass tufts.

Sums of the Sudan

I recently acquired a second hand copy of Sands of the Sudan without the card deck. Not a problem as I have a new copy complete with card deck on order.

Browsing through the rules allowed to do some sums to convert distances and base sizes for 10mm figures, the original rules being designed for 28mm.

The suggested table size was 12' x 6' or 144" x 72". Dividing by 2.5 this comes out to be 5' x 2.5', well within my table size. Larger games could be 18' x 6' converting to 7.5' x 2.5' also within my maximum six of 12' x 4'.

Imperial infantry and dismounted troopers have 6 figures on a 45 x 40mm base which converts to 18 x 16mm rounded up to 20 x 20mm. It should be a simple case of checking figures densities with some real castings to make sure they fit.

Largest base I will need is a 30 x 40mm for mounted Mahdist troops.

The project continues.

Goodies at Battleground 2019

Today's winter trip to Middlesbrough produced a few goodies. The weather was bitterly cold but I won't say it was 'Baltic' when it was entirely 'Northumbrian'.

First up is some vending machines from Ainsty.

https://www.ainstycastings.co.uk/?currency=EUR&cPath=68

Followed by some drinks cabinets.

Wonder if Coca-Cola will get upset if I paint them red?

And some arcade games.

Anyone for Pacman?

Some obligatory paint from Colonel Bills.

Some driveway clutter by Warbases.

Bits and pieces for my space troopers to hide behind.

I've been saving up coke cans.

Difficult if you don't actually drink the stuff.

This one probably contains vimto (anagram of vomit).

My new reading material.

A horde of Mahdists, wonder what I will do with them?

Highlight of the day was bumping into my old friend Mike Headden, looking at least a stone lighter than last time.

I failed to get a copy of Sands of the Sudan so reserved the right to not look too closely at Newline Designs figures. Their turn will come later.

WSS British Infantry

Another battalion dribbling off the painting queue.

They are green faced and I think are meant to be the Oxford regiment, don't quote me on that, I have lost my painting notes for them and I started them then abandoned them quite some time ago. Having health problems does not encourage a good memory.

They are destined for a bring & buy sale unless someone puts in a good offer for them.  I have more of them in the pipeline so let me know if you have any interest.

The figures themselves are Wargames Factory, 28mm and based for BLB. Flags are by Warflags and bases by Warbases.

In a Galaxy Quite Close By ....

Some space travelling mercenaries stop for a bite to eat.

Nice little place and it sounds a bit familiar.

Not much on the menu.

The Boss says queue up here.

Plenty of room inside.

(Needs some food making clutter) (Heading for the bits box)

Light Bobs

About a year ago I purchased some British Light Infantry from Eagle Miniatures to assess the quality of the figures. I have not been disappointed.

https://eaglefigures.co.uk/

Of course, life got in the way getting them painted promptly but never-the-less they are now done.

I took advantage of some late sunshine although today I had to wear a woolly hat and a winter coat to venture outside.

This view shows up some stray static grass which I will hunt down later.

I have chosen them to be 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot as they had buff facings and therefore buff straps and belts, a new option for me.

They will get their colours later.

They are, of course, a Light Infantry Regiment but also performed all the manoeuvres of a Foot Regiment.

What do you think guys?

Chinese Pagoda

Another Warbases offering complete with golden Buddha.

Sorry, my garden fence is pretty level, my grandsons sandpit table is not.

There's a lot of bricks and a lot of tiles, all hand painted.

Buddha is within.

This is a 10mm Pendraken Austrian Napoleonic unit.

They are all work-in-progress.

I need to adjust the scaling.

Chinese Temple Foo Dogs

One of my weekend purchases from Warbases.

Chinese Temple Foo Dogs

https://warbases.co.uk/product/chinese-temple-foo-dogs/

They paint up nicely.

As you see they are a matched pair, one left facing and one right facing. Just fine for a non-descript Chinese town.

They don't have the traditional attributes of a male and female pair but I can live with that.

Anyone for a Chinese?

FIW British Infantry - WIP - Part 2

Still having to steal 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there to make progress on the FIW British Infantry I am doing for the French & Indian War. Their painting, in my best impressionist style, is now finished. All they need now is their Colours and some static grass and tufts, and a few more minutes.

How am I doing?

This chap at the end is supposedly an NCO. I'll need to get my books out to see if he needs any rank distinctions. Help would be appreciated.

These wonderful figures are by Crann Tara.
