Aliens
Just a quick post to say that a few chums were round this evening and we had an impromptu game of Aliens.
Here's a quick pic from my new phone, not brilliant but adequate.
The rules we use are homegrown and we think they are rather good!
Tempted to do a post or two on our Aliens games. I could certainly do something on the terrain set and something on the rules. I would need to produce a PDF copy as the rules cover two sides of intensely filled A4. I'm sure some groups could make good use the rules are they are designed to be both a competitive and a cooperative setup putting pressure on both a multi-player group and a single player.
I for one would enjoy seeing your rules. I am always looking for a good set for Aliens...something that captures the flavor but can be taught quickly for conventions.
The rules produce 'pressure' of different sorts on each of the players at different points in the game and even more so if the campaign set-up is followed.
The game is basically a single player controlling the 'Aliens' against several players each controlling a 'Marine Squad' and co-operating with each other to a certain degree.
The Aliens have 'Egg Clusters' which generate 'Crawlers' which can deploy into 0-3 'Alien Warriors) which are hand-to-hand nightmares for the Marines. Special events can vary the number of 'Egg Clusters', 'Crawlers' and 'Alien Warriors', and can even produce an 'Alien Queen'.
The Marines each have a 'Marine Squad' which consists of an 'Officer', 2 'Heavy Weapons' and 7 'Troopers'. The 'Officer' is a Regular as are another 2 of the squad and the rest are Rookies. The Regulars are slightly harder to kill and can shoot more effectively than the 'Rookies'. Special events (every move) can both boost or disrupt a squads activities. Basically the 'Officer' is an idiot who must be obeyed.
Both the Alien and the Marines score points as they 'kill' things and in the campaign set-up scores are carried forward as are the squad survivors. Replacements are always 'Rookies'.
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
ReplyDeleteI think I have heard that strategy before somewhere. I wonder where!
ReplyDeleteLooks fun ,do tell us more...

DeleteThe rules concept sounds interesting

Then there is the 'Combat Car' and 'Ripley'.
Oh fine, first Bob Cordery tempts me with a new project, and now you do too. I gotta stop reading these blogs...
