Hexon II

I collected my Hexon II order at Carronade this morning.

I spent slightly in excess of £400 but I got a lot for my money.

I got two sets of flocked tiles as well as a blue set for a bit of beach. I also got hills, escarpments,
mountains, streams, roads and a few single tiles so I am expecting to be able to make up quite a variety of landscapes to play over. Watch this space.

Here it is all from a different angle.

As well as few more bits and pieces of Medievals for my Hordes and Heroes armies I sampled some of the new ACW figures from Kallistra. Above is a Union limber set, 2 guns, 2 limbers, 2 sets of seated crew, 2 sets of 6 limber horses and enough gun barrels to represent a number of gun types. Also included are 8 bases but I usually make my own.

This is the Union artillery set, 4 guns, 12 gunners and an officer, tons of gun barrels and more bases.

I hope to do a size comparison with other figures later.

  1. Jim,

Welcome to the world of Hexon II!

As you might have gathered, I have quite a lot of the stuff myself. I began with a set of basic green hexes, then went on to get the green/brown, desert, desert transitional, and blue hexed terrain sets. I also own the following sets of terrain: two road sets, one stream set, one river set, one trench set, one strongpoint/fortification set, two green and one desert hill sets, one standard and one desert mountain/rocky outcrop sets.

The two green sets work well together, and the transitional desert set is ideal for tropical terrain where there is some grass (e.g. Central Spain, tropical Africa). The desert terrain is ideal for beaches if you are doing an amphibious landing wargame, or for dry desert where there is very little rainfall.

I hope that you enjoy using your new terrain as much as have. It is not cheap, but I think it has paid for itself in terms of fun and ease of use since I bought mine.

    All the best,

    Bob

    1. Time will tell whether it has been a good purchase or not Bob. There is nothing in the sets that I could not have scratch built myself but it would take a fair amount of time. I can start playing with this set tomorrow!

  2. Hi Jim,

My current collection is a lot more modest than yours but boy is it good quality! I will get some more for my new set up but can only echo Bob's sentiment - especially the last sentence!

    All the best,

    DC

    1. Hi DC

I am already starting to think what little bits and pieces I need to enhance its flexibility. Some slope hexes come to mind and some more singles and definitely another set of blue so that I can use it for naval games as well as beach landings.

As far as cost is concerned it is a mere trifle compared to what I've spent on the hobby in the last ten years never mind the last forty!!

  4. Wow, that is a load of Hexxon. I have a few of their mountains pieces as I use them for Islands for when I play my Uncharted Seas games and I like them a lot but I don't know if I want to go down the slippery slope of using them for my land based games.

I caught a brief glimpse of you at Carronade today Jim. I was busy blethering in Hall 2 when I saw you moving swiftly through it but by the time I had finished chatting, like the Scarlet Pimpernel you had vanished!

    1. I have been known to become completely invisible at times. I think I am a Superhero waiting to be discovered!!

I brought a couple of friends through in my car and we have a habit of not staying at shows all day. At least two of us are sufficiently short of a full days energy in that we like make our escapes mid afternoon.

Claymore will be your next chance unless you are in Florida by next weekend!
