Tanks are vulnerable on the top of course so my feeling would be that from HE they would be more so when stationary than on the move.

I will give this some thought but in the meantime you have inspired me to run your scenario on my Hexon with the blocks - using my own tweaks. I think that will be an interesting experiment to try out.

All the best,

DCDavid Crookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02497436789811496047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-235143659957048058.post-56481111451164942862012-12-03T03:07:11.935+00:002012-12-03T03:07:11.935+00:00To be fair - a Second World War tank hit by a thee...To be fair - a Second World War tank hit by a thee inch mortar is not going to have a good time. However the chances of scoring a hit like that are minute and the tank is likely to rumble through the splinters unharmed. I did consider the option when I was drafting the rules but decided to treat them as artillery rather than as non-artillery to encourage players to use them defensively.

I think that I agree with you regarding the LOS issue; it is how I would have called it.

Mortars can do a lot of damage to AFVs if they hit the thin armour on the top of a tank's hull, which is why it is allowed in the rules. That said, it would be the work of a few moments to change the rules so that Mortars cannot inflict damage on AFVs.

I hope that my comments are of help.

All the best,

BobRobert (Bob) Corderyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13109130990434792266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-235143659957048058.post-22861542848628941532012-12-02T21:45:33.902+00:002012-12-02T21:45:33.902+00:00There was an interesting discussion about the effe...There was an interesting discussion about the effect of mortars on armour on Slitherine's Battle Academy forum, including contributions from a serving soldier. The overall conclusion was that mortars can destroy open-topped vehicles like half-tracks, but not tanks, which they could not penetrate. However, a succession of mortar shells striking a tank could affect crew morale, forcing a retreat.Welshgamernoreply@blogger.com
